How can I install FreeNAS without a CD or USB Key?
I’ve assembled a server from old parts, and I’m trying to install FreeNAS. However, the BIOS on my motherboard doesn’t support a USB Key. I also don’t want to go out and buy a pack of CD-Rs either. Is that my only option, or is there a way to install it directly from a hard drive?
I have Windows XP installed on one of four hard drives, if that helps.
borrow a cd-r from someone. simple as that. then make your kicker floppy. i’ve been running freeNAS for years and i think I have only shut it down like twice. both times to add more drives. other than that.. uptime well over a year at a pop.
once you get freeNAS installed then you config it to boot off the floppy drive ( a kicker) and that will start the os and save all your settings. once it is running you can run it with no monitor and no keyboard.. just access it thru it’s web interface
