How do they decide what part of a song you play for an auditon?
I play the alto saxophone but I am trying out for the jazz band on tenor. I am playing the tenor part on alto. I was wondering if anybody knew how the judges decide which part of the song you play for your audition? I am playing the song “Friends” by Jim Snidero.
Well…I tried out for an All State honor band and made it, but that was on percussion. :p a bit different.
I dont really know what they actually do, but one of the judges who I know quite well, as to the fact that he helps our drumline every summer, told me one time. I cant remember exactly what he said, but it was something about the more challeging parts, coupled with some easier, slower measures after. If I were you, ( which im not because i wouldnt play saxophone :p), i would spend some extra time on the parts I have the most trouble with. Still practice the easier parts too, but work more on the challenging ones.
