Set in the Cambodian War around the dictator Pol Pot, this was one of the most heart breaking portrayals of war committed to celluloid?
Are there those that remember it? And what film of this genre would you put alongside?

I was going to be polite, instead I will be blunt. Skygirl pull your head in. I know fine well that it was not a “Nam flick” as you crassly put, but an insight to the genocide promoted by the Khmer Rouge.
Based on real events, I went to the cinema in 1984 KNOWING what the film was about.
As to my not knowing the geography of Southeast Asia, having previously worked in shipping for 10 years my WORLD geography is pretty strong all round.

Yes, I remember that movie very well.
True story, too. The amazing part is that the actor who played the Cambodian man caught in the killing fields actually lived a very similar story.
I’d put it into a genre of real-life horror stories. I mean, we make up boggie men and gouls to scare us in movie but in real life there are some pretty horrific things.
I’d put it in a category with Hotel Rwanda, Missing, Midnight Express, The Last King of Scotland – I’m having trouble right now thinking of others. But movies that are reality based and show people getting caught in and struggling against gigantic forces of injustice.
