Harp Nylon
i’m looking for harp strings for a 22 nylon string celtic harp?
I would like to replace the nylon strings on my 22 string celtic harp with metal strings. I realize that this could place extra tension on the harp and break it. Are there metal strings that I could use that would be light enough?
Some harps are built only for nylon strings and replacing them with gut strings runs the risk of busting your soundboard, as you are aware. The best thing you can do is check with the maker of your harp (if you know who it is and they are still making harps) and ask them if you can put metal strings on the model you have. Chances are they are going to tell you no, especially if your harp is still under warranty. You are not going to find metal strings light enough for your harp if it is built for nylon strings because the gauge is naturally going to increase as the strings progress down your harp from high to low.
