Guitar – Beyond The Chord Chart
We've all been there – shortly after seizing our first guitar we know that to play with people nothing is going to listen to those who need to "learn a few chords." These chords first for most beginners end up being the position chords open sets in the first frets.
Soon we began to associate these chords with the basic forms – E, A, D, C and G shapes. These five forms are much more fundamental than it initially appears, because once it comes to mastering the dreaded F chord, or more exactly, the "E-shape bar, immediately feel liberated – now we can create variations of major and minor chords, up and down the neck.
Some stop there. Some may even realize "A bar form" (based on chain A) can widen our scope of tone and expression of a little more. It is true that these two forms are really moving sufficient for most of today's media-of-the-road rock music. You can write great songs with a blend of 5 forms open position, and these two forms of bar, even epic!
But why stop there? Why limit yourself to everyone? There is much more to discover on the fretboard. different voicings – voicings that can make a chord in their intricate sound 10 times more vegetation. The truth is, as guitarists enters its second year of play, permanently these chords begin to sound, well … a bit boring.
Too many guitarists are losing in the production of music that is astounding, and much less than others because of his love affair with the chord chart quick reference, learning parrot fashion, ignore any understanding of "what that chord voice sounds like … here "and know their various options.
You may be thinking "this sounds complicated, where I can go from here? What I need to learn to be able to think outside the box when it comes to building interesting chords? "
Two words that make some jump in its case guitar – string theory
Chord theory is an area of the guitar that does not necessarily have to be pretentious and elitist or just for jazz / classical guitarists. Explanation and learned the right way, knowing some basic theory of guitar chords you can open a plant composition in the head, producing their products directly on your guitar.
There are 5 steps you must take to reach your guitar chord nirvana (and I do not mean the band!) The first 3 you probably already have …
1) Learn the 5 ways barre chords (E, A, C, D and G)
2) Learn larger scale in 8 (yes, eight) different positions on these forms bar
3) Use your knowledge of the major scale to create triads, 7th and extended chords in various positions on the fretboard. This is the basis for the construction of unique and interesting chord voicings.
4) Use your knowledge construction of chords to create unique chord voicings with investments all over the pitch.
5) Do not forget to "float" chords occasionally with strings.
Once you invest a little of your practice time learning basic chord theory (does not take much time to pick up), you will begin to investigate the pitch like a second nature. Will you come with chord progressions and really use your ears to identify "Right" according to the change. His game is open to a wide range of styles.
Above all, however, the creation of original music only to be true "that" will not be limited by the size of a chord chart – only limited by the 6 strings of your guitar.
