Metal guitar players, please answer!?
I have been playing guitar for about 2 years, and I’m 15. Several months back I got an ESP Eclipse and I’ve been wanting to learn arpeggios and stuff like that. I’m just confused on what all scales (I know the Pentatonic scales) I need to master before I start soloing fast without it sounding horrible. I practice about 2 hours a day, I also have an acoustic guitar that I mastered chords on, and a squier stratocaster that I played on before I got my ESP, so I knew what it would be like to play an electric guitar. I also am curious, how do you pick really fast while palm muting? (what Slayer and Metallica does, etc.) I have tried and tried and either my pick slips (I use dunlop tortex picks) or I get a really crappy sound. If anyone can give me advice on my problems, I would really appreciate your time. Thanks!
I definitely know who Randy Rhoads and Yngwie Malmsteen are! They’re awesome, and the reason why I want to play metal! 
Use as many scales as you can get your grubby little mitts on. Metal, in its complexity, has room for all scales. Immerse yourself in music. Harmonic minor’s a good one to start with after the pentatonic, but there’s no reason to stop there.
I use Dunlop Tortex picks, too, the yellow bastards, and I don’t have that problem… You just gotta work at it. It’s essentially a controlled twitch. I find that heavy picks help, because they maintain their rigidity under such stress. They don’t go all floppy and weird and make you lose your place.
Practice until your fingers bleed. Then, fill the wounds with super glue, and practice some more. That’s how you do it.
