********Guitarists/Guitar Tech (Guitar Pickups) *******?

i have an old squier strat body and want to put a Seymour Duncan APH-1 Humbucking Pickup with Alnico II Magnets – Bridge Position in it.
**What will i need to put a new humbucker in a strat?(tools,wires…..)**
(it has a spot for a humbucker)

Good choice in pickups, btw.

My initial response is actually to have you take it to a pro for this, mostly because there are a lot of variables in how you wire it up… and if you’re not handy with a soldering gun it’s actually a real pain in the keister.

If you were to do this you would need a few tools… a soldering gun (no more than 30w), something for desoldering (I love the desoldering vacuum guns, waaay better than the bulbs, totally worth it), some solder of course, a few different screwdrivers (phillips; small and precision), and you might end up needing some wire (coated, not bus wire). I usually keep more stuff handy… super glue, aluminum foil (shielding!), as well as spare components just in case.

Wait, you need components too? Hoo, boy. You need more than a Y!A response for this one!

Google – “wiring diagram strat”, “how to shield strat guitar”, “how to install pickups”, “how to install guitar components” even, maybe.

I strongly urge you to do a lot of research. There are a multitude of choices, especially in how you want your guitar wired up. I would suggest you keep it simple – don’t do one of the “super strat” wiring things, you will almost certainly end up doing what everyone else does (including me)…. do all that work, and end up using only one or two settings out of what, 11 or more?

I do wish you good luck… sorry to disappoint, I don’t feel that I could give you a step-by-step on this one and still do it justice. =)
